Pennsic L (50)

For those that know me, you are aware that every year I sojourn to the wilds of Slippery Rock in western Pennsylvania for the largest event of the year held by the SCA. That event is called Pennsic.

For those unfamiliar with the SCA, they are a kind of "re-enactment" group sort of like the Civil War re-enactors. The main difference between the two groups is that the SCA does not re-enact specific places/battles/events. Instead, it's more about bringing the arts & sciences, martial activities, and culture from the Middle Ages to the modern age.

Some take on personas and get really into "the Dream," while others just attend Pennsic and party with their friends. I'm somewhere in-between. I do go to my local SCA events (though admittedly not for quite some time) and I also do Pennsic. I do not have an officially registered persona, but I do wear garb and play by the rules.

But one thing that I do every year at Pennsic is take pictures. Usually lots of them. Not all of them get posted and there have been some years I've skipped because I went to Disney or something else. In either case, it has become a tradition of mine. Every Wednesday of "Peace Week" (second week of the event), I go on my photo walk and take pictures of all the encampments around the campground.

This year I decided to do something a little differently. In addition to my normal photo walk, I took my newly-full-spectrum-converted-DSLR and tried my hand at some astrophotography. The results aren't bad. They definitely could use some improvement and I'm still learning. But I did have fun trying and the sky there is much more open than it is back home. Anyway, enjoy these shots from this year's Pennsic.
